Floating solar power plants

One of these was built in the middle of a quarry lake in western Germany near the city of Renchen.

Most of the energy generated goes to the operation of a local sand and gravel mining enterprise. Power - 800 thousand kilowatt-hours per year. On weekends, when the quarry is closed, electricity from here enters the region’s common energy network. Pontoons (boats used to support heavy loads on water), on which solar panels are installed, occupy only 2% of the lake, that is, there is enough space for the station to expand.

The development of alternative energy requires vast areas, which are not so many in densely populated Germany. But in Baden alone, there are about 150 quarry lakes on which such stations could be located.
