Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan attends high-level meeting in Nur Sultan

On August 21, 2019, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov in Nur-Sultan took part in the next high-level meeting of the Central Asia-USA format (“C5 + 1”).

In the conversation, the ministers discussed the practical implementation of the agreements at the highest and other levels reached within the framework of the Uzbek-Kazakh contacts, exchanged views on priority areas for further strengthening multifaceted cooperation, the press service of the Foreign Ministry said.

The Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan exchanged views on the state and prospects of development of multilateral cooperation in various fields including supporting economic partnership, solving regional security problems, promoting peace and prosperity in Central Asia and the neighboring Afghanistan together with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Beibut Atamkulov, the Kyrgyz Republic Chingiz Aidarbekov, the Republic of Tajikistan Sirojidin Mukhriddin, Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the US Under Secretary of State David Hale.

In the speech of the head of the Uzbek delegation, it was noted that the “C5 + 1” format, launched in November 2015 during the first meeting of the heads of the foreign affairs agencies of Central Asian countries and the United States in Samarkand, has established itself as a reliable and effective consultative mechanism.

According to the Minister, the process of forming broad opportunities for deepening and building up inter-regional cooperation, its bringing to a new level is going on in Central Asia. Today, the Central Asian states have opened a new page in the centuries-old record of friendship, good neighborliness, mutual support and cooperation.

In the speeches of the heads of the foreign affairs agencies of the countries of the region and the USA, support for the C5 + 1 interaction platform was confirmed as a forum for joint discussion and resolution of common issues.

On the same day, the heads of delegations participating in the “C5 + 1” meeting were received by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Zhomart Tokaev.
