Plants began to die faster.

Experts believe that plants began to disappear 350 times faster than before.

The process is developing at such a rate that scientists seriously call it the sixth mass extinction in the history of life on Earth. More than a million species were threatened with an early extinction reports naked-science.ru.

Macquarie University biologist Johan Leroux and his colleagues from Australia and South Africa told Current Biology that plant extinction is 350 times faster today than the average for history.

Among the factors influencing these changes, the authors name human activity: agriculture and urbanization - both in “hot spots” and in “cold” ones that do not differ in biodiversity. Especially vulnerable were herbaceous plants. Scientists call the loss of their species one of the most dangerous challenges facing humanity.
